My whole family unit merely dearest information technology!! Instead of using jar of stale beef I only use 8oz. thin slices of beef lunchmeat "Budding" and it a lot cheaper!! Not salty at all and you don't even have to rinse!! You must attempt it and believe me, you won't be disappointed!!!!

Only like moms, minus the pepper and her beefiness came out of a bag. TIP: If you find this dish also salty, soak the beef in cold water for about ten minutes, and drain. Try a piece, if its still as well salty, soak in fresh water for 10 more than minutes.

Comfort Food! Once I got the roux down (it took 2 tries), information technology was fantastic. I added the ceyenne pepper, seasoned table salt and cracked blackness pepper. We used the Budding Luncheon Meat. Served it on toasted spud staff of life buns. I bet it would be great on biscuts! The boys scarfed them down faster than I could serve them. Goes downwards well with a BIG glass of cold MILK!

It'southward funny that the recipe says that SOS stands for "Same Ole Stuff". That'due south the prissy version but not the original. It's really "S*** On a Shingle" and the first give-and-take isn't "Stuff". That's what the armed forces has been calling information technology since way before my fourth dimension. My mom just called information technology "Creamed beefiness" simply fifty-fifty she knew what information technology was really called. She was only too polite to use the real name. ;~} My mom used to make this with browned hamburger from time to time. Now I'thousand the one who does all of the cooking for my married woman and 2 kids and I seem to be the only i who loves information technology. I use browned hamburger and a little minced onion and just use the fat from the hamburger to cook the onion and make the roux. Just sprinkle the flour over the cooked hamburger and onion and melt a bit. So whisk in the milk. I add lots of black pepper and sometimes a splash of worcestershire sauce. It's good over toast but fifty-fifty better over buttermilk biscuits. Information technology'south basically the same recipe as sausage gravy just with beefiness instead. Serious condolement food for me simply information technology's too seriously depression brow cuisine. Add a picayune chopped parsley if you desire to pretend it'south fancy. I was a chef in some pretty overnice restaurants for years but I still love the back woods, depression brow, peasant food like this. Makes me desire to whip up a batch correct at present!

If this recipe is too salty for you, but boil the chipped beefiness in a footling water for a few minutes, and then drain off the water, which will take some the salt away with it.
11/11/2007
I was surprised at how easy this recipe was. At first i was concerned that there was also much beef for the recipe but it turned out perfect! Information technology is rare to detect a creamed chipped beef recipe that is thick - this is it! i would like a little more than season but i dont know what else to add. I love the cayenne just i feel like there could exist another spice that i am not thinking of. Anyway it was great and i would definitely recommend this recipe just as information technology is!
12/03/2006
I figured out that I have to nearly double the sauce recipe. I still only apply one jar of dried beefiness, but with more sauce, it's not as salty. Though it is definitely something that you can make rapidly for everyone to consume. We make all the time.
04/17/2007
This recipe is K-R-East-A-T!!! If yours turned out besides salty, you lot probably used the jarred dried beefiness and should take RINSED it offset. Nosotros used fresh dried beef from our local locker. Fifty-fifty my EXTREMELY picky 13 yr sometime daughter and 5 yr old son Love this stuff...and inquire for it on a regular basis!
07/31/2002
I used every bit someone else had suggested deli meat(Italian beefiness from Cub Foods)and it was awesome...Nosotros served over hash brownish patties(for those that are not big bread eaters)...Next time I'll need to double the recipe...information technology was gone in one sitting.
05/23/2003
My husband loved it, my 12 twelvemonth old son declared it his "favorite meal", and we all wished I'd made more. The funny thing is-after reading the reviews, I boiled the jarred stale beef a minute, and so rinsed it off...then we all had to ADD salt (and pepper) to our portion...Go Figure!
02/17/2008
Fantastic, my husband loved it. Just what I was looking for. I mixed nearly 2/iii of the milk and the residue was cream. Also a groovy base to add together actress'south to sense of taste
04/15/2011
You lot will accept more flavor if you tear up the beef into large bite size pieces, saute in the butter for a flake and and then add the flour and milk.
04/fourteen/2011
add Nutmeg to taste...i always exercise that...it adds flavour and you dont fifty-fifty know its there
02/15/2009
I have been making Chipped Beef for years and I learned from watching my female parent. I don't use a written recipe but I use the dried beefiness in the jar. I cutting the beef into small pieces and saute it in the butter a few minutes and so that the beef flavor escapes into the butter and then I add the flour and milk. You can as well add together a small amount of beef bullion granules. This recipe is even meliorate if you make information technology the twenty-four hour period before you lot programme to consume information technology! Bang-up comfort food!

My mom always made this when I was a trivial girl and I've fabricated it for my family for years. I start out with parkay margarine (it has more than flavor than butter). I cook that and so stir in my beef. My favorite is to get it from a deli simply that is usually not possible then buddig beefiness in the packages is the next all-time thing. I mix that with the parkay until lightly dark-brown. I pour the milk into my tupperware gravy maker and add the flour and shake. I pour this mixture over acme of the beef and butter and melt until heated and slightly thick. It is so much easier than trying to mix the flour and butter.
04/xiv/2011
Try scooping out a baked potato, mixing the irish potato with the chipped beef mixture (sans cayenne pepper for me). And so fill up the spud shell, put grated cheddar cheese on pinnacle and warm in oven until cheese melts.
04/14/2011
This is a skillful recipe which I used except for the cayenne-I used black pepper instead. But over the years I tweaked information technology. Melt the butter in the pan, then put shredded dried beef in the butter. Permit it sizzle on medium heat for 3-4 minutes, stirring often. Information technology volition develop a better season past doing that - and give information technology more of a chew cistron. Then add the flour, stir until 'roux' develops, add the milk and (just) pepper (no salt necessary. simmer till thickened and bubbly. Y'all can besides throw in a small can of drained infant peas (or frozen) - like a one-half cup; and if you like mushrooms, toss some (canned, drained) of those in likewise. I personally like it over biscuits instead of toast.
04/fifteen/2011
Just seeing this listed, brought back many memories of my mom, opening up that tiny jar of either Hormel or Armour Chipped Beefiness. A dish that she prepared several times a yr. I too would rinse off the backlog salt, tastes have changed then has the information near also much sodium; back when I was a little boy, there was not that much processed food effectually and the corporeality of salt that was used to cure this chipped beef wasn't much of an issue--notwithstanding today, that is not the case. A great, American, comfort nutrient item and like some of the other respondents, I was in the military and this was called by a proper name that doth not be listed here.
04/15/2011
S**T on a Shingle. Dad hates it as he had it every day in the service. Mom made information technology for us. Originally it was canned or bagged chipped meat/beef, milk gravy and toasted white bread. No back-scratch or cayenne at all. Simply salt and black pepper. And BTW, milk gravy IS made with a roux, which is just a fancy French way of telling you to cook off the butter/flour mixture to become total flavour earlier adding the milk. Oh and FORGET THE MERLOT! Try a cold dark beer, that will stand up to the salt in the meat. Also really good over egg noodles.
07/09/2012
OK - if the beefiness isn't swimming in the cream sauce, you've done it wrong. If the toast isn't completely covered in sauce, you've washed information technology wrong. If you can swallow it with your fingers, you've done it incorrect. If you lot but put it on toast, y'all are missing out. Try it over your hash browns, or scrambled eggs, or both.
04/22/2008
This was and then simple and so good. I used the Budding sliced beefiness and it was not salty at all. My husband liked it alot. I made to much and so we were going to have leftovers the next solar day for tiffin - Large mistake because this does not reheat well at all, The sauce gets lumpy. Very practiced and simple recipe / Give thanks you for sharing !!
04/14/2011
To raise this dish to a higher level, sweat a couple of TBSP finely chopped shallots in the butter before adding the flour for the roux. Brand using half and one-half and plenty of freshly footing black pepper. Serve over toasted English language muffins. I always soak my beef in some cold water before chopping and adding to the white sauce.
10/12/2008
Well, I started reading the reviews and found that almost of them were the same. This is what nosotros used to have in the Air Force and chosen information technology SOS but it didn't stand for "Same erstwhile Stuff". It stood for "S*** on a Shingle" and virtually of us asked for information technology by that name. Pepper wasn't in the classic recipe and if you lot want to keep it classic you cannot add together whatsoever of the other "stuff" either. I have always used the Buddig packs. If yous want to endeavor something better attempt using the Buddig packs of ham - substituting it for the beefiness. I call it "Sham on a Shingle" and it is the only fashion that I make it now.
04/16/2011
Spend a little extra and buy yourself Armour Dried Beef. It makes this a great Chipped Beefiness Gravy. Chipped Beefiness gravey on toast whatsoever day of the week for this agglomeration. The cayenne pepper is a nice touch besides. I quickly run warm water over the stale beef to remove some of the common salt. I try never to add table salt as it seems to suspension down the essence of this delicious gravy.
02/21/2008
I grew upwardly adding the beefiness equally soon every bit the white sauce was started! Perhaps thats why information technology never tasted salty to me or anyone else who has ate information technology since its soaked in the "gravy" for a petty while. I too add lots of shredded cheese and make the sauce cheesy. My family absolutely loves this. Cheap and like shooting fish in a barrel meal.
04/21/2011
Unlike other "reviewers," I prepared the recipe exactly equally written. I used the dried beef called for, not hamburger or Walmart beef. Despite the fact that the beef characterization merely suggested, rather than specifying, rinsing the beef, I did not practise then because the recipe never mentioned rinsing. The event was inedible considering of the saltiness. If I try this again I will definitely rinse adjacent time. Lisa, if the beef is to be rinsed, say and then in the recipe. Oh, and S.O.S. definitely does not stand for "same former stuff."
04/14/2011
I utilise two packages of Buddig sliced beef and add a dash or 2 of Worcestershire sauce to the cream sauce instead of cayenne.
04/14/2011
If you would like more of the stale beefiness flavor, saute the dried beef with the butter to release its oils 'before' calculation the flour. Makes an incredible difference and changes this 4 star into a 5 star recipe.
04/xiv/2011
This is just like my Nanny used to brand. The only thing I did different is we eat ours over potatoes. Just boil the potatoes, mash them on your plate. Add some butter and salt and pepper and put the chipped beef over it. That is e'er how we ate information technology growing up. Oh, and I leave the skin on my potato but the kids like it without! Thanks for this reveiw. I oasis't had this in ages. Bring back smashing babyhood memories with my Nanny (grandma).
04/fourteen/2011
I usually apply the packaged beef also, simply I usually saute it in the butter for a few minutes and then add the flour to the pan and stir until the butter is absorbed. Add the milk and stir until thickened. It seems to give the white sauce a little more flavour.
01/17/2009
This is one of my most favorite comfort foods. I fabricated it for my kids this morning. 1 kid loved it, the other wouldn't touch it. I used the sliced beef in the packages like my mom did when nosotros were little and I added in six crumbled difficult-boiled eggs. Truly comfort nutrient at it'southward best. It'south good over biscuits but for true trashy taste, best over cheap toasted, buttered white bread.
eleven/08/2008
Very tasty. One word of caution - don't be tempted to add salt to the white sauce because the chipped beefiness is very salty.
04/14/2011
Mmm, we love this one now, and I grew upwardly on information technology likewise. Even better is flossy egg on toast, make the same white sauce merely throw in chopped hard boiled eggs instead of the chipped beef. My four year old loves it! Or a can of peas for creamed peas on toast. Any of these options are perfect for comfort food!
08/12/2011
1 of my favorite comfort foods for breakfast. I add about a tsp of garlic powder and onion powder and some white pepper! I also go chipped dried beefiness from the deli! I sometimes serve this over homefries as well!
03/27/2002
Followed recipe to the T and it was the saltiest repast I have ever eaten. Hook me up to the water hose. Liked the consistency of the roux, but once dried beef hit it...........information technology was all over. I'thousand going to try it with vegetables and craven or tuna; and perhaps hamburger.
05/11/2011
Just like Mom's! Both my immature boys ate this up. Quite a feat since my youngest (2) doesn't similar meat.
05/04/2012
We grew up on this being a Navy family. Of course, SOS stood for something else. :) This is wonderful comfort nutrient. It'south super over home made biscuits likewise.
04/14/2011
While the recipe is excellent, I quite often brand it using very lean footing beef. Brownish the beef in a small pot, add the flour to the beefiness, stir, then add the milk to the mixture. It will thicken quite fast and eliminates the task of making a roux. I then add a touch of wostershire sauce and some onion powder, garlic pulverization and salt/pepper to taste.
11/11/2009
I liked this. I added a little onion powder and a little worcestershire sauce. Served it on toasted english muffins. Very good. Thanks.
04/14/2011
Ane of my favorite condolement foods from my babyhood. Made more special beacuse only my begetter and I liked it. We fabricated it with Budding packaged meat when everyone else had something better to do. When I make it at present I wish I could share it with him.
03/06/2010
very proficient, just not plenty gravy for that amount of beef. i used a iv.5oz jar of sliced stale beef and doubled everything else to make information technology perfect!
05/20/2010
This is a good starting betoken! My mom'south best friend makes this all of the time and I take fond memories of it growing up:) She adds a small chopped onion to the butter while making the roux. Also Velveeta (to your liking) cubes to the white sauce and a little sherry or white wine tops it off! She also e'er served this over the frozen puff pastry puffs (not the sheet). Great served with peas! I LOVE this for dinner, such a wonderful condolement meal for me:) Thanks for sharing!
01/07/2010
This is your basic, old fashioned recipe for SOS. And you lot know what? It's nevertheless easy, and information technology's however pretty well received. My non-meat-loving kids really like information technology, and information technology is sooooo fast to brand.
01/11/2013
My hubby has been talking nearly the creamy chipped beef his mom served him when his was a kid then I decided to make information technology for him. She is no longer with us so I couldn't ask her for her recipe and I came across this one and idea I'd give it a try. My hubby loved it with the exception that he, like many others, idea it was too salty so next time I volition rinse the meat. Changes I made: I added onion with the melted butter and I added the meat to the onions before the flour. I used two cups of milk instead of 1.5 cups and I add a sprinkle of nutmeg. My hubby said it was perfect except for the table salt.
09/23/2010
I made this for my husband, after he had been begging for me to detect a recipe for SOS. I rinsed the stale beef from the jar in warm water, only hubby said it was still very, very salty, and for him to complain most saltiness is rare! He said the SOS the Navy served was much ameliorate! The sauce looked good, but side by side fourth dimension I would use corned beef or something else besides the jar of dried beef.
04/fourteen/2011
We have eaten this every Easter Sun, for the past 50 years. Here'southward our family's twist. Showtime we brand a roux with butter, onions, Wondra flour & whole milk. A overnice rich white sauce. The chipped beef is sliced & and then must be soaked in warm water to get the saltiness out. The hard boiled colored easter eggs are peeled and chopped & go into the white sauce when it's finished. Serve over toast. Some pastel color comes out from the dye on to the white of the egg & it's very eastery!
04/xvi/2011
I grew upwardly eating this for breakfast, made exactly similar this recipe. Sometimes I want it for supper and I will serve it over biscuits and add frozen light-green peas to the creamed beef. YUMMY!
08/06/2012
Just like my Mom used to make, so creamy and good.
05/03/2011
Skilful, solid recipe - brought back memories of one of dad'due south specialties when I was a child. I found the salt level fine without rinsing the dried beefiness, merely I did make a petty extra on the white sauce so that may accept helped. Added some cracked black pepper, served over rice - YUMMM!
04/14/2011
This also is xlent if you lot use Pork Breakfast Sausage. Fry it, drain it & crumble it into the sauce.
04/fourteen/2011
Almost exactly how I take made information technology for many years. Anyone from war machine families Know this term came from them and was simple only like this recipe is. Past the way, I did make this exactly and it was expert. I usually fried my chipped beef in the butter first for more season. Expert over biscuits too. Toast is the bomb though. In my opinion.
12/05/2007
Yup, this is my grandmother'due south and my female parent's recipe before her, although, we don't use an 8 oz jar of beefiness. For this much sauce, a 2.5 oz jar is more than sufficient for us, and helps keep it less salty overall. For the affiche who was wondering was boosted spice could be added ... the hole-and-corner is ever nutmeg. A SMIDGE but, not more than than that, lends a nutty spice to this dish, much like information technology does to Alfredo sauce. I made this tonight and served it over toast cubes. We've also fabricated this and served it over toasted stale rolls. it's also quite adept over crushed breadsticks.
04/fifteen/2011
Awesome - have made this for years and also utilize the Buddig brand - we similar the corned beef. Add together a dash of nutmeg for an extra bit of seasoning. SO GOOD
01/01/2011
I only made this for New year's day brunch. I tripled the recipe and added i/ii teaspoon garlic powder and 1/2 teaspoon dried mustard. That is how my mom used to go far when I was a kid. It was one of the get-go entries to become! Elementary and yummy. I wish I could find stale beef without nitrates.
ten/25/2010
My mom has been making this since I was a kid, she had learned it from her mom who learned how how to arrive in the Regular army ... I needed some comfort food today and couldn't call my mom up since she'due south on holiday then I turned here. I'thousand so glad I found this, it was exactly how I remembered it from my babyhood. My mom e'er used the packets of sliced beefiness from the cafeteria and information technology always comes out groovy! Thanks for sharing! This was perfect for such a dreary twenty-four hour period and during midterms!
11/09/2007
This brings dorsum childhood memories. I didn't care for creamed chipped beef as a child, simply I like it meliorate as an adult.
08/05/2008
Delish! A quick and easy recipe that my whole family enjoyed. I could non notice the dried beef in a jar, so I used the carl budig sparse sliced pastrami lunch meat. I cutting it into strips and heated in a fry pan before calculation information technology to the white sauce. Served over thick toasted slices of challah breadstuff. So good, I will have to double the recipe side by side time!!
03/10/2008
I remember my mom making this on occasion growing up. I did rinse the chipped beef to try and reduce some of the saltiness. I besides used kitchen shears to cut downwards the time it takes to chop the beefiness. This was good but not nearly as skillful every bit I remembered it. Since the SODIUM is OUT OF THIS World I probably won't make it again for another 20 years! Personally, the USMC SOS recipe was much ameliorate tasting that was made with ground beef.
01/07/2008
Recently, I found myself craving this recipe although I hadn't eaten it since my early childhood. My family of vi wasn't exactly poor simply we had to make uncomplicated meals stretch far so the 'chipped beef' was Land-O-Frost lunchmeat, the toast was English muffins, and seasoning was salt and pepper. I substituted those same ingredients again and this recipe was still FANTASTIC! Tasted exactly how I remembered! Savoring it again tonight took me dorsum over 30 yrs., when us iv kids were madly lapping it up and fighting for seconds (and thirds)! Cheers for the yummy recipe and wonderful walk downwards memory lane.
10/twenty/2011
The men in the family beloved this just I apply 4 TB butter, iv TB flour and 2 cups of milk and 2 pkg corned beef. I estrus the ii cups of milk in microwave for a couple minutes and add milk all at once to the roux so I don't accept to spend forever stirring it.
09/02/2008
This is a great recipe. i did double information technology though and used 2 cups of heavy foam and 1 cup of milk. Yummmmmmmmy!!!!
10/21/2000
one of my familys favorites when I say "ok tonights gonna be a quick one...what do you want?" : )
10/03/2000
This recipe tastes just like the commercial kind. Very tasty. Instead of beefiness in a jar, I used wafer sliced beef lunch meat..it worked slap-up!
04/14/2011
I dear this meal. I add chopped hard boiled eggs and peas and chopped onion. My boyfriend loves it and I brand enough so we take leftovers.
04/14/2011
As my mom did, I add 2 coursely chopped, hard-cooked eggs. I also add some frozen peas to make a 'full repast' out of it, and I serve it over state buttermilk biscuits. And don't add together Whatsoever salt to this! And to those having trouble making white sauce, y'all can mix the milk & flour together first (I use cold milk, or half & one-half) in a measuring loving cup and add to melted butter all at once.
01/thirty/2011
DH requested I make this. I accept to admit I really did not want to but glad I did.I tasted a bite off of DH'south plate, information technology isn't bad and really easy to make. Simply depict dorsum is the sodium content. DH ate the whole thing so that was half-dozen,564mg of sodium. I would accident upward similar a balloon. If you lot don't take a sodium problem I would suggest trying this, yous may similar it.
02/fourteen/2011
Merely like mom used to brand. Except better.
ten/28/2013
Great recipe only my family constitute that viii oz of dried beef to be overwhelming. I used 1 (1) two.25 oz jar of Armour dried beef and ground mixed peppercorns in the adjacent attempt. It was a success!! I also took me dorsum to my days in the Marine Corps!!
02/05/2011
excellant resturant quality This will be my go to recipe from now on. definatly soak ur chiiped beef if u don't want it salty
04/14/2011
This is just like my Mom's only where;s the peas and boiled eggs? Reminds me of my childhood.
03/xviii/2012
Upon a review and proposition I used lunch meat and I would have to say use the dried beef it would had been much amend. The cream sauce seemed to exist missing that flavour that comes with it and that may had been due to using the lunch meat instead of the dried beef. So I would maybe try this again but I would use the stale beef and mayhap a tablespoon more of butter.
02/07/2008
I had left over corned beef from a brisket I had made and used this instead of the jar beef. I used the food processor and chopped information technology all upwards. I made a double batch for 2 teenage boys. I warmed the milk in the microwave first for 5 mins that way it doesn't scald and makes it faster to make. I besides warmed the meat in the microwave for ii mins. I also added a pinch of garlic salt because it was too banal for my gustation. While the milk was in the microwave I made the butter flour mixture, and when the meat was in the microwave I did the toast and so put the meat in the sauce and it was done in 10 minutes. Very easy and fast and the kids ate it all!!!
01/sixteen/2012
Delicious! I haven't made this in ages and it hit the spot this night.I used one/2 stick butter and approx 1/2 cup of flour..be sure and cook that a infinitesimal or 2 to get rid of the flour taste. I then added the milk, slowly stirring and final added 2 pkgs of chipped beef that I sliced in 1/iv inch slices. Always a family favorite.
03/08/2008
This recipe is entirely too salty as written. I had to throw it away. We couldn't swallow information technology. Practise not use dried beef in a jar. Perchance package from common cold cut section would exist ok.
10/02/2011
This was expert, I added pepper to gustation.
11/xiv/2010
We all enjoyed this chipped beef for dinner (myself, my married man, my 5 year old son and 4 year old girl). I rinsed the beef, but I think that I must have "over" rinsed information technology. I rinsed every single slice while running the residual of the beef nether water in a collander. The result was that information technology actually ended up needing salt, IMO. This is my own mistake of form. :n) the cream was great, and next time I'll exist less meticulous with my rinsing. Not sure if I prefer this over Stouffers, since Stouffers is obviously easier to make, which is why it got 4 instead of 5.
01/15/2008
Doubled the recipe and but used two-iv oz. jars and information technology was fine. I rinsed only one jar and was but correct for salt. Family unit loved it.
02/07/2012
My mother used to make this when I was a kid for the states all the time since we didn't have very much coin. It's my absolute favorite. it's simple, like shooting fish in a barrel, and brings dorsum memories. it's not a flavorful dish if you lot're looking for something fancy and awakening, but if you accept the same reasoning every bit i do, information technology's just a comfort food. And to make information technology amend, my mom ever put chopped difficult-boiled eggs in hers. YUM! :)
11/09/2007
I have made this recipe a couple of times and each time it has been Neat! I similar to add some frozen corn to mine. It is indeed wonderful condolement food. It is incredibly inexpensive, quick and easy. I would suggest buying stale beef for this and non using the lunch meat as someone suggested. I tried it the starting time time that I made it to relieve money, but was disappointed by the taste. No need to salt a second time when using the dried beefiness correct from the jar.
09/04/2013
I increased the sauce as some others did and this turned out perfect! I've made this before several times, but never with the cayenne and information technology made a wonderful difference. I also like to put some scramble eggs on acme of mine too...just another little touch that makes it better.
02/15/2011
Yup, merely like Mom's!
01/05/2014
I grew up eating this, I love information technology! I didn't see it on this recipe, but I've ever had sliced difficult boiled eggs in mine as well mixed in with the "gravy" and dried beef. It's excellent!!
03/09/2009
It reminded me of the frozen Stauffer's, what I grew up with. I doubled the recipe for iv people. I used jar beef and tuckered it twice. Since I drained the beefiness information technology needed a piddling salt. I didn't put in the cayenne pepper. I put in black pepper instead. I serve it on toast.
01/05/2011
so practiced! Comfort food on a common cold twenty-four hours.
02/10/2013
You need to double the recipe. The portion of roux to chipped beef is sparse. It simply makes enough for two people or cover 4 pieces of toast and the chipped beef is really salty even though I rinsed the bit beef in hot water and allow it eddy in the roux. Next fourth dimension I'll double the recipe and boil the chipped beefiness in water before adding to the roux.
04/15/2011
I have been making chipped beef on toast for years. I start out with olive oil instead of butter. More healthy. Add flour slowly to oil, lower heat and stir until it gets slightly dark-brown. Add milk and several drops of Wright'due south concentrated Hickory Seasoning (liquid fume). salt & pepper to taste. In the Navy they phone call it (SOS- on a shingle)
01/08/2003
This is my daughter's all-time favorite breakfast. She eats it one time a week. I use the Buddig make Corned Beefiness and poultry seasoning instead of cayenne. Over Xmas break used leftover cubed ham instead and cream instead of milk, only every bit good, if not better.
11/02/2011
my mom used to make this and i had been craving it! came out perfect the second time...the start time i made a big oops! didn't wash the beef off...i didn't know to do it and it was pretty much inedible. second time effectually i rinsed it and it came out perfect! so for anyone else that has never cooked with dry beef...be warned! rinse it beginning :-)

The hubby could not get enough of this yummy comfort food. I used Carl Buding beef and doubled the sauce. The cayenne pepper gave information technology a little heat which was dainty, add more than if yous like the spice. Served with veggies on the side. Will exist making this 1 again and again.

I tripled the sauce and used half a pd of dried beef chipped from the deli. Nosotros eat this when we go out for breakfast. You can put information technology over scrabbled eggs, fried taters, or the most popular is toast. I liked this ameliorate than what we get out, and everyone in the house liked information technology. Thanks for the recipe.

Just like the kind mom used to make. I used a package of budding beefiness and chopped it upwards. I had to double the recipe for my family of 4 though.

We are beef farmers and dried beef is in the freezer. This is just most the only style nosotros like stale beef. I was looking here for more ideas of what to make with it and found that I had already tried them all: chicken broil, creamed beef, and overnight casserole. Our favorite manner of eating creamed beefiness is either over fried hash browns or waffles. I always seasoned this with a little bit of nutmeg and beef broth and seasoning pulverization, merely tonight I will endeavour the pepper.

Good stuff, like what mom fabricated merely due west/ an added kick. I employ the beef in the plastic bag, and that works fine. I similar how salty this recipe is. But, I'm an admitted saltaholic. :)

This is an one-time stand-by recipe that I accept prepared for my family for years. I utilize 2 packages the Buddig beefiness, double the cream sauce and add only a nuance of both onion powder and garlic powder, forth with salt and pepper to taste before I chop and add the beefiness and serve over toast. With these changes, I'd give this recipe five stars. A quick and like shooting fish in a barrel meal!

Had a deep desire for creamed chipped beefiness tonight. Being merely after mid-March I also had some leftover corned beef. Used it in this basic roux recipe and it is wonderful. Thanks Lisa for posting. Also my father taught me how to cook very rich so I used 1/three heavy whipping foam to 2/iii+- pure water as my liquid in making my roux. Much creamier taste and texture= richer flavour.

I've been making this dish for years, I beginning slicing the dried beef, them plunging it briefly into humid water to remove some of the table salt, so saute it in butter, add cornstarch then milk till ti thickens to desired consistency. season westward/a fleck of white pepper... that's the authentic style to make it!
